Grit is the thing that will keep someone going when things get tough. As we all know in life that it will get hard and it will feel easier to stay in bed, and not face the world and prove this is where the winners will stand out.
Many young people will learn grit in sports growing up. In every sport, instrument, or practice there is an element of grit. Someone does not feel like showing up every day. This is where you get to start building grit if you choose. Or people will let their kids take the easy way out and give to their feelings. I would suggest Angela Duckworth’s books about grit. I have read them and they are great. She talks about a grit scale and you can take that test here.
Grit and My Story
This is just my story and so take it with a grain of salt. I played football in high school and college. Out of the seven years, I played I missed one practice and that was for my grandfather’s funeral. I did not want to go to every practice when I was injured or sick. This is where I built grit because I was there. Maybe standing on the sidelines but I was there. Most of the battle is won just by showing up.
The amazing thing about grit is that it will transfer. Maybe you do not have experience in the field or business you are trying to start. The things that you have done to build grit before with help you keep going. For me, it is almost like I survived through “blank” so I will make it through this.
I would love to hear how you build grit. You can drop a comment below or head over to the Contact Us page.
