I was thinking today about how the little things are the things that make the biggest difference. How they all add up to something greater.
Many times people, including myself, will try to make a big change and I cannot keep up with that change. I will revert back to what I was doing. Sometimes this will be quick and I can only last a few days other times is will be weeks but it happens often when it is a jump.
I am not saying that big changes cannot last they are harder to keep up. This is great if there is a short deadline like in a competition. I have a friend who competes in weightlifting and the diet gets very strict at the end when they are trying to make weight. But it is for a short time.
If we are trying to make a lasting change it is better to do it in increments. This process might be quick but if we stack up the little wins we are more likely to keep it up.
This is what is Darren Hardy talks about in the Compound Effect. He goes over the example of the penny doubling every day. See the picture below. You can get a free copy of the Compound Effect here.
My Journey With the Little Things
There have been changes that I have made in my life that seemed like jumps but when I break it down I made little decision in rapid succession. Such as when my wife and I decided to switch to eating plant-based. I am not saying you have to do this it was for health reasons.
For most people, it looked like we jumped in and changed. But we watched many documentaries on both sides. My wife has had a problem with dairy since she was born. We talked about it a lot before deciding and picked an end date if we did not see any changes.
I know that seeing the little things is not always easy but in the end, it will make a big difference. It would be great to hear from you by dropping a comment or you can use the Contact Us here.
