The World is changing as we are progressing into a new age. This would be the information age. We have so much computing power at our fingertips to look up anything now. From how close is the moon to a recipe. It is endless what we have and can know.
The old way was to memorize what we would need. I know there are still good things to memorize. The more that we have memorized the less room we have for new things. As we learn something new it will take up space. I know there are things that we can do to help maximize would capacity but it is still limited.
Why not spend this capacity on things that we cannot ask an AI assistant. Such as the Dumbar Number or theory. This generally states that we can only maintain 150 relationships. Also, You can have up to 1500 people you can recognize. Of course, this is a generality and will be different for each person. Here is the article that I found on it and this also goes into social media and the numbers.
Changing the Limits
I would say that it is never a good idea to put limits on ourselves. Because most of the time we are the ones holding us back from our own greatness. If we believed in ourselves we could have a different life like Jim Farley.
In How to Win Friends and Influence People Dale states that Jim Farley can call 50,000 people by their first name. That does not fit into the Dumbar number. Why? Because he worked on it. He also states that it was all because of hard work and that is why he was so successful.
I also hear many people speak weakness over themselves saying “I am not good with names” but if they never work on it then they will never get any better. This is one example and I know there are others. It is hard to believe that with all the knowledge that people have now they have little room to gain other things. I am not saying that gain other education or trades is bad but there might be things we are missing when it comes to teaching our kids.
I look forward to teaching my kids different things that will help them throughout life. This way if they do want to go through more schooling they will know the things that will make an impact on people’s lives. Not changing what is taught because many good things are taught to our children but adding in some things that school leaves out.
